The Independent Network (IN) has organised a workshop for independent Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs) and supporters in Birmingham on the 23rd January 2010 from 10am – 4pm. The ticketed event will be held in The Priory Rooms at the Quaker Meeting House in Birmingham city centre.
Over 30 people are expected to attend the event and there are a few places remaining, but tickets are selling fast. Any individual who wishes to attend the event should get in touch with the IN as soon as possible.
The workshop brings together a number of speakers with a wealth of knowledge on electioneering which will be invaluable for Independent candidates. Speakers at the event include; Dr Richard Taylor MP; Martin Bell; Bill Givens; Jim Thornton (IN Executive member) and Professor Colin Copus from De Montford University.
Ros Baston from the Electoral Commission will also be attending and providing a talk and advice on electoral legislation.
The IN’s researcher Livia Oldland says, “Standing as an Independent can be a lonely and daunting experience, but the IN aims to promote and support candidates. This workshop will provide essential information on all aspects of campaigning, such as fundraising, producing a manifesto, volunteers and media relations.”
The workshop is primarily arranged for parliamentary candidates, but the topics covered will also be applicable for all types of electioneering such as local government and student politics.
The IN is a non-profit organisation and asks all attendees to provide a small donation of £15. This contribution will help cover room hire and administrative costs.
If you wish to obtain a ticket for the event on the 23rd January 2010, please send us an email telling us the number of attendees and provide us with a £15 donation. The IN’s email address is firstname.lastname@example.org
